Breaking Barriers: Promoting Student Success through Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in Education
Presented by: Dr. Daminna Standfield and Lauren Miller, California Community Colleges Accessibility Center
Accessibility is an essential component of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as it ensures that all students have equal access to educational opportunities. Unfortunately, many efforts to increase inclusivity often overlook the needs of students with disabilities, leading to marginalization and exclusion. This is a significant issue, as millions of students with disabilities attend schools and universities across the country. Therefore, it is crucial to recognize the intersectionality of disability and other identities in order to create a truly equitable and inclusive environment.
By framing the conversation around accessibility using a social justice lens, we can promote an accessibility-conscious campus culture that benefits all students, regardless of their individual needs. If you are interested in exploring ways that California Community Colleges can integrate accessibility into the broader conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion, we invite you to join us for this important workshop provided in collaboration with CCCAC, CVC/@ONE, and ASCCC.
