Description:
Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act are designed to ensure equal access and prohibit discrimination based on a student’s disability. Learn more about the relationship between these laws and how faculty use accessibility and accommodation to support student learning. Participants will also learn the importance of preparing equally effective alternate access plans based on their learning outcomes. Join us for a wide-ranging, interactive discussion.

Presenters:

  • Christine Fundell, 508 Program Manager, CCC Accessibility Center
  • Stephen (Alex) Marositz, 504 Program Manager, CCC Accessibility Center

Learning Objectives:

  • Articulate the difference between sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Understand the distinction between accessibility and accommodation and why this distinction is important for students and faculty
  • Consider a plan for equally effective alternate access for assignments and activities for content that is not completely accessible.
